HAUTE COUTURE

2024 - SHANGHAI

How to shape a space with character has always been a fundamental question in our practice. In this project, elements drawn from haute couture are introduced into the spatial language, allowing the space to “dress itself” — as if it were wearing its own garment.

Within the main living hall, spatial dialogues are orchestrated through a scenario-based composition. Centered around the fireplace, a single-seating area is positioned by the window, defined by a screen, a chaise longue, and a floor lamp. Meanwhile, a multi-seat sofa arrangement, together with an accent chair, forms the primary gathering scene, establishing a triadic social relationship with the piano and the chaise longue, enabling multiple modes of interaction and use.

By de-symbolizing conventional French stylistic language, the design retains the classical European structural elements — such as columns, plaster moldings, and brass chandeliers — while pairing them with abstracted contemporary furnishings, including coffee tables and sideboards.
