DREAM
2023 - SHANGHAI
Inspired by Picasso’s The Dream, we drew from its refined curves, proportional distortion, and Cubist deconstruction. These principles—fragmentation, reconfiguration, and contextual abstraction—were distilled into the design. In the foyer, the arched ceiling is reinterpreted through a reverse-curved axis that complements the circular form above, forming an abstract facial motif and subtly echoing the painting.
Along the circulation path, successive curved elements—double arcades, Roman-framed arches, and semi-circular niches—soften the architecture and introduce spatial fluidity. In the main hall, preserved gray concrete walls and columns ground the space and sharpen the contrast with the white interior surfaces.
Natural light becomes a key compositional element. Across the living, dining, and transitional spaces, its shifting rhythms extend the spatial depth and mediate the dialogue between interior and exterior, allowing the environment to unfold in layered, restorative scenes.
