POLAR REGION
2024 - SHANGHAI
The design concept for this project was inspired by four natural elements—waves, mountains, stones, and sunset. White wave-like forms are applied to the ceiling and floor, creating a sense of flow and lightness, while black mountain tones define the walls and emphasize verticality. To avoid a monotonous atmosphere, circular and square light fixtures are embedded in key positions, introducing rhythm and layered illumination.
At the entrance, a semicircular wall and metal display cabinet form a sculptural installation supported by stone and white cabinetry, serving both functional and spatial purposes while evoking a sense of ritual. Stone is also used throughout the furniture design, its rugged texture contrasting with smooth architectural lines and bringing a natural yet refined character to the interior.
Natural light serves as the primary lighting strategy, enhanced by reflective white surfaces and adjustable blinds to create dynamic shadow play and evoke the mood of sunset. The overall design strikes a balance between strength and softness, translating natural imagery into spatial language and offering a living environment filled with rhythm, emotion, and harmony.
